Recommended 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness for 2012 Honda Pilot

Question:

I found this reply that you gave to a customer but I want to know what is the difference in the two wiring option so I can decide which one I need. Im looking to tow up to 4500 LBS so want to make sure I have the correct hook-up. inch I need to know if this trailer wiring harness is what I need. I dont need trailer brakes. I just need the wiring to get my 2012 Pilot ready to tow a trailer that requries a 4 way flat light connector. asked by: Ryan R Expert Reply: The wiring harness fora 2012 Honda Pilot that did not come with a factory tow package that would have included a trailer connector is # 118558. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. this will provide you with the basic light functions used on a trailer: left and right turn signals, brake lights, and running lights. Wiring harness # 118265 is designed to replace a broken or lost OEM trailer connector if the vehicle came with one from the factory. expert reply by: Michael H

The way your 2012 Honda Pilot came equipped from the factory will determine which of the two available 4-pole wiring harnesses is correct. If your Pilot has a factory tow package you will use kit # C56170 from Curt. If it did NOT come with a factory tow package then instead you will use kit # 118558 from Tow Ready that also includes the required relays to activate the tow wiring.

The other wiring harness you referenced, part # 118265, is a 7-way type with additional circuits for 12V power and trailer brakes, intended for tow-package-equipped vehicles.
