Availability of Tent for Use on Rooftop of 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan

Id like to instal a rooftop tent to my 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. It has a factory folding roof rack already. Is there a aftermarket roof rack system that can mount to what is already there and that can handle the weight?

We do offer tents intended for use with a vehicle like your 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan - the Rightline Gear # RL110907 - which mounts at the rear hatch, but we do not offer tents designed for a vehicle's roof. This spacious tent measures 8-feet x 8-feet and is over 7-feet tall. It is rated for a sleeping capacity of 4 adults. We suggest using tarp under the tent - Erickson's 10 x 10 reversible tarp # EM57032.

It is quite likely that the van's roof weight capacity would be insufficient to handle the weight of even one adult. Most passenger vehicles' roof weight capacity tops out at or below 120-lbs. Since the Rightline tent itself weighs about 20-lbs its all but a sure thing that the vehicle could not handle your weight in addition.

While it is sometimes possible to add an aftermarket roof rack to a vehicle's OEM rack, this does NOT add weight-carrying capacity to the vehicle. That is a fixed figure and the auto maker gets to decide what it is!
