Will Adding a 7-Way and Brake Controller Void Warranty on 2015 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X King Cab

Question:

2015 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X King Cab Considering buying this vehicle and need to set up for towing a 3000# travel trailer. Firstly, does your 7 prong wiring kit package include the heavier gauge wiring for battery charging and the electric brakes? Salesman advised one needs to take muffler off to wire? Claimed a 4 hour job as no factory hitch installed.. differs a bit from e-trailers comments. In looking at your site the Teconsha Primus IQ brake controller appears to plug in at the dash. Are there additional relays/wiring needed? The sales person alleged an owner installed hitch and wiring could void the vehicle warranty AND accident insurance? My vehicle insurance agent has no knowledge of this and the BC MV Act provides no information to validate. Could it be the salesman is blowing smoke?? Comments please. Thanx

Yes, Curt trailer wiring harness # C56226 does have slightly hire wire gauges for 12 volt power and brake circuits due to the higher power demand from those circuits.

I am not sure why the muffler would have to come off to install the harness. If the 2015 Frontier is anything like the 2014 Frontier then it is not necessary. Take a look at the video I have linked on a similar harness. It is possible that he was talking about adding the factory towing package but I can't say for sure. If you look up under the back of the truck you should see the factory plugs on the drivers side frame rail.

You might want to go to a different dealer because they are blowing smoke about that warranty thing. Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually caused the problem in question. I am confident the issue with the insurance is not true either but you could call your agent to verify.

For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it's reliable. You will also need harness # 3050-P to plug the controller into the truck.
