Can 145/12 Trailer Tires be Used in Place of 5.30-12 Trailer Tires

Question:

Im looking to replace the 5.30-12 tires currently on my trailer with radial tires. I have approximately one inch from the inside wall of the tire to my trailers frame. Although the AM35354 tire is only ~0.2inch greater than most bias tires in 5.30-12, they could still not fit if the hub sits deeper inside the well of the radial tire. Should this be of concern?

Expert Reply:

The difference in section width between a 5.30-12 and a 145/12 is just 0.1 inches. Only half of that is applied towards the trailer. On wheel and tire combo # AM35354 the wheel is a black mod wheel with a zero offset meaning that the mounting surface of the wheel is in the dead center equal distance from either sidewall.

Both tire sizes fit the same wheel size so if you just wanted to go to radial tires then you could use # AM10130 for a load range D rated for 1,220 pounds at 65 psi. Or you could use # AM10140 load range E rated for 1,520 pounds at 80 psi.
