Recommended Screws For Plywood Deck on Snowmobile

Question:

I am installing a new plywood deck on my snowmobile trailer and the screws I removed are 1-1/2inch long with a head width of close to 3/4. They are self drilling or tapping. The trailer is aluminum and the plywood is 5/8inch thick ccx treated. Can you recommend me a screw for this application. Thank you

Helpful Expert Reply:

I recommend the treated torx screws for treated wood for better corrosion and rust resistance. The treated torx screws like the Redline 2-1/2 Inch Long Torx Trailer Screw for ACQ Treated Wood, part # TFX150ACQ, are plated with a material that will resist the preservative used in treated wood, which is very corrosive because of the high levels of copper it contains. When using treated timber it is necessary to use double-galvanized or stainless steel fasteners.

The plating material used on the treated torx screws is said to be comparable to stainless steel as far as rust resistance, but less expensive.
