Will a Trailer Hitch By Itself Set Off Backup Sensors on a 2009 Acura MDX

Question:

Our 2009 Acura MDX has back up sensors on the rear bumper. If we install a Curt Trailer Hitch, 13354 without the extension or hitch ball, will the trailer hitch automatically set off the sensors every time we put the car in reverse? Or is the hitch sufficiently below/ behind the bumper as to not set off the sensors? We recognize that the sensors will go off when we attach our bike rack. But do not want them to go off without the bike rack on the car. Thanks in advance for your answer

The backup sensors on your 2009 Acura MDX would not be able to detect Curt trailer hitch # 13354 once it is installed. The face of the receiver will be slightly recessed from the furthest part of the back bumper as shown in the picture I have included. The sensors are more rear facing than downward facing so it will not be a problem.

You can test it if you want by placing something in the approximate area the receiver will be and then placing the vehicle in reverse. Be sure nothing else is in the range of the sensors when testing so you can avoid a false reading.

Like you said, with a loaded bike rack installed in the hitch the sensors will likely pick them up and sound the alert.
