Question:
looking for a fifth wheel hitch to fit factory pucks in 2015 ram 3500. What are jaws thicknesses on C16545-16021? what are your preferances o between this and the BandW 25000 lb hitch, and why. i notice the Bandw is a lot taller hitch and am concerned with that, vs the height of curt hitch.. why so much differance?

Expert Reply:
5th wheel hitch jaws vary in thickness. On the Curt hitch # C16545-16021 the jaws are 5/8-inch thick. On others, thickness can be greater, such as 1-inch or even 1-1/8-inch as with some Reese and B&W hitches like the # BWRVK3600.
Hitch height range is a matter of design choice. All standard 5th wheels offer a height range of a few inches and this will vary by brand. Certain tow vehicles might benefit from a shorter or taller hitch depending on several factors including the particular trailer, vehicle wheel size, suspension, etc.
B&W produces an excellent USA-made hitch, and the Curt is also a solid product. If judged strictly on a value basis the Curt # C16545-16021 wins in this comparison since its cost is significantly lower. The B&W on the other hand is USA-made and carries a limited lifetime warranty.
