Parking Lights on 2001 Chevrolet Silverado Come on When Prodigy P2 Brake Controller Override Used

Question:

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado that I installed a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller using a Reese O.E.M. Wiring harness for Chevy compatible with Tekonsha, as well as Hopkins Multi-Tow 7 Blade and 4 Flat wiring kit. Once all was installed the controller had power, however when I used the manual over ride to test the brakes the parking lights on my truck would come on. Have you ever heard of this before?

It sounds to me like you may have the wrong brake controller wiring harness for your 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapters, # 3025-P and # 3015-P, are commonly confused because the plugs are identical but they are pinned differently. I have included a picture of part # 3025-P to show the pin configuration for your truck.

If you determine that your adapter is not pinned the same as # 3025-P, take a quick look at the link that I have attached. One of my fellow experts made a video showing how to switch the wire configuration on an adapter.

If the wiring checks out to be ok, please send me an email and I will research into this issue further.
