Plug-In Adapter Needed to Install Brake Controller In 1998 Ford F-250
Question:
I have a 98 F250 LD. It has a 7 pole plug at the rear. I use a adapter to run my 4 plug flat wire trailer. I just started using my old trailer with electric brakes. I purchased a controller but I cant find what to plug it into. The only plug I can find is a rectangle plug with round male plugs inside but there are only two prongs and it and it wont fit the square 4 wire plug receiver that comes with the controller. Do I cut wire and splice or am I looking at the wrong plug under the dash. Cant find another one.

If your 1998 Ford F-250 has the factory 7-pole trailer connector at the bumper, then you should have the brake controller plug under the dash. The factory brake controller plug is located under the dash, near the center console. I have attached a photo of the vehicle side of an adapter. You will want to find the plug that will match up with the end of the adapter in the photo I have attached. I suggest double checking, but it sounds like you have found the correct plug under the dash.
There should be a custom plug-in wiring adapter to connect your brake controller to your vehicle's wiring plug. Each manufacturer makes an adapter to work with their brake controller. If you will let me know which brand brake controller you have, I will be glad to let you know which custom plug-in adapter you need.
