Base Plates and Accessories for Flat Towing 2008 Honda Civic Coupe Behind Motorhome

Question:

I am considering purchasing used 2dr. coupe Honda Civics for a tow car. In checking your Roadmaster tow bar mounts they were listed for 4dr. Civics only 2012, 2010, and 2008. WILL THESE MOUNTS ALSO FIT THE 2DR. COUPE?

The Roadmaster # 521557-1 base plates are compatible with the 2006-2008 2 and 4 door DX, EX and LX Civic models. I've confirmed this with Roadmaster.

You should know that Honda states in their owner's manual that the Civic shouldn't be towed behind a motorhome. This being said, I've found hundreds of references in the online forums from folks who tow their Civics without incident, as long as you follow the instructions listed in the 'emergency towing' section of the owners manual TO THE LETTER.

If you decide to tow the vehicle, you'll also need a towbar, safety cables, a wiring solution and a supplemental braking system.

For a towbar, I'd recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2, part # RM-520. The Falcon 2 is very easy to use. The self adjusting and centering arms mean that you can attach to your motorhome even if the vehicle isn't perfectly centered behind the motorhome. For safety cables, I'd recommend the # RM-643.

For a wiring solution, the # RM-2120 would be the easiest to use alternative. This would allow the lamps to be completely independent of the vehicle wiring, and would be very easy to install and remove.

For a supplelmental braking system, you can't go wrong with the Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251. Since it never has to be taken out of the Civic it's one of the easiest systems to use once it's installed.
