Will Over/Under Leaf Spring Conversion Kit Improve Tire Clearance on 2001 Keystone 5th Wheel
Question:
I am starting to blow tires after they are about 2 years old. When I purchased the camper the springs were shot the tires had only 1/2 inch clearance. I put all new springs with 300 more pounds capacity each which now only gives me 2 1/2 inches of tire travel would spring over kits be helpful to increase travel Thanks

If what you're looking to do is increase the clearance between the top of the tires and the underside of the wheel wells, and the leaf springs are currently mounted to the underside of the trailer axles, you can use an over/under kit like # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8 inch axle diameter or # K71-385-00 for 3 inch diameter axles to increase the tire/wheel well clearance. Over/under conversion kits are only recommended for double eye leaf spring suspensions, not for slipper springs.
You'll also want to ensure that you have the tires properly inflated. A trailer tire should be inflated to the maximum pressure listed on the tire's sidewall. If it's not fully inflated, excessive heat can build up in the tire, shortening the tire life. I've linked you to a trailer tire FAQ article that you might find helpful.
