Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2014 Chevrolet Traverse

Question:

Dear e-Trailer I own a 2014 Traverse W/O tow package W/rear A/C I purchased Curt C56181 Kit My vehicle has rear A/C I should know better, but it did not click in my mind when I ordered it Looking at the wiring I seen the Issue The Evaporator Housing covers the access to the right side turn signal wiring. When I tried to find another path to route my wires I found that my car has a plug were the factory tow package wiring pigtail would have attached. after looking back at your site I see were a customer used 118270 on a another application. in the review he stated his vehicle had no tow package as well. My question. can I too use the much easier kit on my 2014 Traverse as well? Thanks I did not want to call on a holiday weekend.

The T-One wiring harnesses for the version of your 2014 Chevrolet Traverse that HAS the factory tow package are parts # 118271 for the 7-way type and # 118270 for the flat 4-pole type. Both use the rectangular OEM connector included in tow packages that is shown in the linked photo.

If this is what you have on your Traverse you can test the pins on it to see if the wiring is active. Some vehicles may not have the required fuses and relays installed (by the way, those are included with kit # 118270). You can use a tester like # PTW2993 on the pins while a helper activates the brakes, lights and turn signals to see if the signals are present. The linked videos show how to use the tester.

The reason you want to test is that the term "tow package" can mean different things. Sometimes it means only a hitch, other times it may mean a hitch, wiring, fuses, relays, etc. It is possible your wiring is active even though officially you do not have a "tow package". If you detect signals on the connector pins and its type matches that on # 118270 then you're all set.
