The size 5th wheel hitch you will need is going to depend on the gross trailer weight of your 28 foot 5th wheel trailer. It is also going to depend on the truck. Consult the truck owner's manual to determine the towing capacity of the truck. While the Ford straight 6 is a good motor but the truck might not have the capacity for many 5th wheel trailers.

The lowest rated 5th wheel hitch is a 15K but I do not recommend it. I recommend the Reese 16K # RP30047. This hitch features a dual jaw design for good, solid contact with the king pin. It also features a 4-Way pivoting head like many other hitches. For a short bed truck the slider version is # RP30051.
