Adjusting Ride Height of 5th Wheel Trailer for 2014 Ram 3500 with OEM Towing Prep Package

Question:

I am curious about ride height of the trailer, this is my first ram and first time buying a 5th wheel hitch, I bought the truck short bed with towing prep package installed at the factory, I now find that I need an adaptor. My truck is stock in height but it seems really tall, I have had friends ask if the truck had a lift kit. I ordered the truck from factory so I know its stock. My concern is if I add the adaptor RP30154 which adds approx. 2inch in height and a slider hitch on top of that, has there been any issue with getting the 5th wheel to sit level once it hooked to the truck? I dont know if the king pin is standard height on most 5th wheels or not I think I have heard of people having issues but want to know for sure.

Expert Reply:

5th wheel trailer pin boxes mount to vertical "wings" that extend down from the trailer's overhang. These offer some degree of height adjustment for keeping the hitched trailer level (or very close to level) for a lower center-of-gravity and better handling. You may be able to adjust the height of your pin box on these wings upward to compensate for the truck's height after you install the Reese Adapter # RP30154 which does add 2-inches of height to the hitch as you noted.
