Recommended 4-Bike Rack to Fit Both 1-1/4 and 2-Inch Hitches

Question:

I am looking to purchase a receiver hitch for my wifes 2005 Toyota Corolla that will be used to carry a hitch mounted bike rack. The two racks Im looking at are the Yakima Ridgeback 4 and the Yakima Full Tilt 4. I realize the limitations of the receivers that are available for this car would only allow two bikes on either of these racks, if they will even work at all with the receivers available. But I also want to use this rack with my 2inch Class 3 receiver on a different car, and my wife will be upgrading cars in the next year or so. Which combinations of receiver and 4 bike rack Thule and other manufacturers welcome would work for this 2005 Corolla knowing that it will only be loaded with two bikes while on this car? Thanks!

First, thanks for clearly detailing your needs.

You're correct that the hitches offered for the 2005 Toyota Corolla are light-duty Class I types with a maximum bike carrying capacity of just two bikes. Of all the options we have I recommend the Draw-Tite # 24913 because of its freedom from the need to use a stabilizing strap.

The Yakima Ridgeback 4 # Y02458 is a great rack that fits both hitch sizes but it's NOT compatible with a Class I hitch, only a Class II. A cost-effective option is the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR that does NOT include locks.
