Options for Installing Dutton-Lainson Deluxe Roller Bunk # DL21741 on 1983 Mastercraft Boat Trailer
Question:
I am looking at your roller bunks. 5foot dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer deluxe roller bunk DL21741. My 1983nmaster craft trailer has 2 bunks that are fairly flat. From memory they are about 4 inches wide with the carpet on them. My concern is that the height of my boat will change when it is on the rollers and create an issue at the front bow stop and safety bar that Mastercraft uses to keep the boat moving forward on a quick stop. These bunks do seem to be the correct solution to improve taking my boat out of the water. The current trailer has to be put into the water very far as this boat is very heavy in the center of the boat. Trying to crank it up after that is impossible. I am hoping the wheels will make this much easier and possible to crank up to the bow stop. What is your opinion on this set-up? You can see a Mastercraft Stars and Stripes form 1983 on-line. These trailers have only 2 wheels with fiberglass wheel wells if you need to see one.

I agree that adding roller bunks to your trailer would make loading and unloading your 1983 Mastercraft Stars and Stripes much easier.
The Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Deluxe Roller Bunk, # DL21741, that you mentioned includes 2 - 5ft sections with a 3,000 pound weight capacity and offers universal mounts to attach either vertically or horizontally. This bunk system can be mounted flat against your current bunks and would increase the height of the bunks by approximately 2-1/2 inches. I do understand your concern about the height change but with it being such a minimal amount I do not see this being an issue when it comes to the bow stop.
Another option would be to remove your current bunks completely and use brackets like the Dutton-Lainson Roller Bunk Bracket, # DL21742, to attach the roller bunks directly to the trailer frame. This would alleviate any concerns that you have with increasing the height of your boat.
