Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller Installed on Dodge Ram 2500
Question:
Dodge Ram 2500 with tow package When I measure the voltage at the factory plug under the dash, the brake wire reads 0.53 V. Normal, abnormal or?? The ground seems fine. Connected to the plug at the back of the truck, same value reading. The Takonsha Voyager controller is completely dark, trailer connected or not. The input to the controller is 12+ V. When everything is connected, I read 1.2 V across the electric brake connector at the back of the truck. Do I need to replace the controller? Im thinking a P3but Id really like to be sure its going to work when installed.

By 'Factory Plug Under the Dash' I'm assuming you're reading the output wire from the controller to the trailer connector. You should be getting a small amount of low-level voltage which is the controller checking to see if a trailer is connected.
When the trailer is plugged in, you should be seeing a green light on the controller. It might be possible the LED itself is faulty, you can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the blue wire exiting the controller when the manual brake activation switch on the controller is pulled.
The Voyager is very sensitive to being leveled correctly, I'd recommend reviewing the installation and set-up instructions I've linked for you to ensure the controller's been set up correctly.
I'll link you to our Brake Controller Troubleshooting Guide, which you should find helpful.
If you should find your controller is faulty, you can't go wrong with the P3, part # 90195. It's much more user friendly than the Voyager you've been using.
