Can Roof Rack On 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport Accommodate 2 Kayak Carriers
Question:
I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport that I want to install carriers on for 2 kayaks. The Jeep has factory installed roof rails. The owners manual for the Jeep indicates a 150 load limit so I think I will be okay. What I would like to use are Thule The width on the factory roof rails outside to outside are roughly 43 inches at the front and roughly 41 1/2 inches at the rear. The usable length of the roof rails are roughly 39 inches. Im presuming that one end of the 838 kayak carriers will mount on the outside of the cross bars - does this create any potential issues? In reviewing the installation instructions for the 838 carriers one side of the carrier should mount okay on the portion of the cross bar that is outside of the room rail. I am looking at this option since it will be easier to load the kayaks which are 12 feet long using a roller system. I would appreciate any insights or suggestions you have. Thanks for your help!

The Thule Roof Rack system for your 2006 Liberty will work great on the side rails you have.
For this system you need part # TH712400, and part # TH710401.Thule also lists a 150 pound weight capacity with this system on your Jeep.
To be able to carry 2 kayaks on the roof may pose a problem due to the room. Using the Thule Hull-A-Port J-Style Rooftop Kayak Carrier, part # TH834, it is recommended you do not attach the carrier to the portion of the crossbar that sticks outward from the feet of the roof rack.
An option to be able to carry 2 kayaks is to use the Thule Stacker, part # TH830. This allows you to place the kayaks on their side and attach them to the center folding mast on the carrier. I have attached a link to a product review video for this carrier you can take a look at.
You will also want to check the owner's manual or with your dealership to make sure you do not exceed the roof weight capacity for your Liberty.
