Brake Controller and Install Harness Recommendation for a 2015 GMC Acadia with Tow Package
Question:
Topic 1 What is the difference between a 7 wire connection and an RV 7 wire connection? If there is a difference, is there a standard 7 wire to an RV 7 wire adapter? I will be purchasing a 2015 GMC Acadia with the trailer towing package. The package includes a trailer hitch and a 7-wire connector. Topic 2 The Acadia does NOT come with an electronic brake controller. The vehicle does have a 7-wire connector Or an RV 7 Wire connector. I need to be able to pull my Big Tex car hauler trailer with electric brakes and spade 7-wire plug .... What electronic brake controller would you recommend? the old vehicle had an inexpensive controller and standard 7-wire plug installed when I bought it. The Acadia is set up for 7 wires BUT no brake controller. I appreciate the assistance. Thanks,

Topic 1: 7-Ways
The 7-way you will have at the rear of your 2015 GMC Acadia is the same style of 7-way that would be found on an RV. Basically any trailer you can find that you would be able to tow with your vehicle that has a 7-way trailer wiring connection would be compatible with your Acadia as the connectors are the same.
Topic 2: Brake Controller Recommendation and Installation
All you need to install a brake controller in your vehicle is the correct install harness, part # 3026-P. This will plug into the back of your brake controller and the other end will plug in under the dash of your vehicle. It's a very simple installation. This harness will fit Tekonsha, Draw-Tite, Reese and Hidden Hitch controllers.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.
I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
