Which Ball Mount Should be Used on a Hitch for a 2009 Dodge Caliber
Question:
I have 2009 Dodge caliber. I am buying a trailer hich for my 250 lb jet ski. I saw that the Draw-Tite Ball Mounts - 3591 is recommander but I am debating about getting the 36061 riser because that i am worried that the caliber is low and the 3591 will be too low to tow. so could you please advise. thank you.

With the Draw-Tite hitch, part # 24769, for your 2009 Dodge Caliber you should use part # 3591. I have added a link to the instructions for the hitch so that you can see the hitch profile and how the draw bar is positioned.
Draw bar part # 36061 is for a Class II hitch and the hitches available for your Caliber are Class I, except for the Valley, so that ball mount would not fit in the hitch. I have included a link to all the ball mounts we carry for Class I hitches.
You want the trailer to ride level or slightly nose down. Part # 3591 is the recommended ball mount because it will be at the proper height for standard size trailers that fit into the weight class for that hitch. I would stick with recommended ball mount unless it proves to be unsafe.
Without having the hitch already installed on your Caliber you would not be able to take the proper hitch height measurement to see if the 3591 ball mount would be the proper fit. If you want to purchase the hitch first, you can install it on the car and I will walk you through how to measure the hitch and your trailer to calculate if a different ball mount is needed.
I have also added a link our ball mount FAQ page that provides a bit more information about ball mounts and how to select one.
