Can I Use Weight Distribution System with 2014 Infiniti QX60

Question:

My 2014 Infiniti QX60 has a factory-installed class III hitch/receiver. I cant find anything on the hitch/receiver itself, or in the owners manual, that specifically mentions use/rating of the FACTORY-INSTALLED unit with a weight distribution system WDS. Fortunately its prewired for a trailer, and according to Infiniti, the vehicle itself comes prewired I assume under the dash somewhere for an electric brake sensor, too. So I have everything I need, and everything I need to know about it, except whether or not I can use a WDS. Do you have any experience with factory-installed hitches for the QX60/JX35? Unless I eventually get a QX80, which comes with a class IV receiver, I plan to tow a lightweight RV weighing about 4000 pounds. This is within the QX60s 5000-pound towing capacity, but I imagine the rear end will be considerably lower unless a WDS is used. So...IF you have experience with the factory-installed hitch/receiver, and IF I can use a WDS, which one of yours is best suited for the QX60? Thanks!

I would contact your Infiniti dealer to make sure your hitch is rated for weight distribution, but since it is a class III hitch most likely it is. Curt does makes a class III trailer hitch for the 2014 Infiniti QX60 that is rated for weight distribution. Curt hitch # C13126 has a maximum gross trailer weight of 4000 lbs and a maximum gross trailer weight of 5000 lbs when used with weight distribution.

If you find that you can use a weight distribution system you will want to base your selection on the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is ready to tow. This includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle in the tow vehicle. For example, if you determine your tongue weight is right at 500 lbs which sounds like the max capacity for your vehicle I recommend Strait Line Weight Distribution Hitch part # RP66083 with its tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs.

If you need a brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller Part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to install. For ball mounts and hitch balls check out the etrailer.com Ball Mount kit part # 989900. This comes with two ball mounts and two ball sizes so that as long as you have either a 1-7/8 inch coupler or a 2 inch coupler you would be covered.
