Cost to Add Electric Drum Brakes to a 1985 Wells Cargo 6x14x66 Tandem Axle Enclosed Trailer

Question:

Hello Brakes for a 1985 Wells Cargo 6x14x66 tandem axle 3.5k enclosed trailer It is an 8000lb trailer. It had electric brakes on it but can see the electric wires in the back of the two tires on one of the axles. I am wondering if you can tell me approximately what a shop would charge to replace the brakes, since I have read that they are required for trailers over 3000lbs. There is no DOT or any sticker on it anywhere.

If the wiring is all there and the axles have brake mounting flanges already on them then it would not cost all that much at all since the brakes just bolt to the flanges and there are just the 2 wires per magnet to connect. If the trailer does not already have hub and drum assemblies then those would need to be added as well.

If hub and drum assemblies are needed that is going to increase the overall cost because the bearings would have to be packed for each hub and drum assembly.

Labor I don't see it taking any more than 2 hours plus the cost of the parts. Labor chargers are going to vary so you would want to call around to see what places charge hourly for labor. If you need hub and drum assemblies then I would need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers to recommend the right ones.
