40 Inch Wide or Less Roof Cargo Basket for 2007 Subaru Outback

Question:

My 07 Outback has roughly 40inch of width available for a cargo basket to sit between Yakima bike trays attached to the crossbar, just outside of the rails. Id like to be able to install a cargo basket while still have access to use the bike trays. I was eyeing the RockyMounts 14er, but realized it wont fit in between my current bike trays. I have since been eyeing the Thule Canyon, because your website states its 40inch wide. The Thule website, however, states its 41inch wide. Is the 40inch measurement you have taken along the bottom of the basket? It appears the basket slightly angles outwards from bottom to top. Any help is appreciated.

The 40 inch width we mention for the Thule # TH859XT Canyon is at the bottom of the basket. The 41 inch measurement Thule lists is measured at the widest part of the basket, at the top.

Yakima offers the LoadWarrior, part # Y07070 that is 39 inches wide at its widest point, which would fit in between your bike racks. The LoadWarrior is compatible with crossbar spreads between 24-32 inches. This being said, you'll want to ensure that the weight of the bikes, racks, basket and cargo don't exceed the weight capacity of your roof rack and the capacity of the roof itself.
