Can Two Friction Sway Control Units Be Used on a Camper Trailer

Question:

I have a 29 ft camper, I have the normal weight distribution and sway hitch with the sway control on the passenger side of the tow vehicle, I will be hauling on the interstate for a long distance can I put another sway bar on the driver side to help or will that not work or not advised, also 1 of my tow vehicles is an expedition with air ride on the rear, it seems the sway a lot more than my Silverado and dont know how to lessen this. Thanks

You can install friction sway control on both sides of a trailer like the part # 17200. The only recommendation I would make is to be aware that when backing the trailer in tight situations you should probably remove the sway controls. This would be true for one as well as two sway controls. Typically we recommend two sway control units when the trailer is over 26 feet long.

I would like to point out that your best defense against sway is proper trailer loading. Sway is usually caused by not having enough tongue weight.

Some vehicles are more prone to sway than others. It is most likely due to the heavier duty suspension on your Silverado that causes it to sway less than the Expedition.
