Question:
Can I cut the bad converter. Box out and just hardwired together. If so how do I do it?

Yes, if your # 118379 was damaged and you wanted to just replace the converter box you could cut the bad box out and then wire in just the converter of a new # 118379. You could use butt-end connectors like part # DW05714 or solder them in.
It would be just a matter of matching the wires color for color.
