Question:
I am need to get a trailer hitch and the wiring for my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cyl All wheel drive. I am not sure exactly what I need to purchase. I want to make sure I have everything so there are no surprises when I bring it in for my installation. Can you assist me?

I would be glad to make some recommendations for you.
First, the trailer hitch I recommend is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 75699. This is a Class lll hitch and has a 2 inch receiver opening. I have attached a link to an installation video for this hitch on a 2012 Grand Cherokee you can check out.
It sounds like you plan on doing some towing so you might be interested in the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
For trailer wiring you should have a round connector behind the bumper and can just plug in part # C55774, You will need to take your Jeep to the dealership and have the computer flashed to activate the system. This will give you a 4-way connector and a 7-way connector at the rear of your Jeep.
If the trailer you are going to tow has brakes you would need a brake controller.
The brake controller I recommend is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. I recommend this controller because it is so easy to install and operate. You can take a look at the attached installation video for this brake controller as well. I have attached some helpful articles that explain brake controllers and their installation.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
