Is the Power Wire Needed for Custom Wiring on a 2011 Kia Sorento and is there a 5-Flat Adapter
Question:
Hi just installed a hitch on my 2011 kia sorento, started to put the wiring harness in, but found that they want me to route a hot wire from the back drivers side tail light to the battery. Also my boat trailer has a 5 flat connector. Do i need to route the wire or not. The dealership has no info for me at this time, if you can help me out any that would be great.

The wiring harness for your 2011 Kia Sorento is the Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118506, and it includes the power wire you've asked about. It is necessary to install the power wire because the converter requires power directly from the battery in order to distribute that power to the harness and protect your vehicles sensitive wiring.
This harness can be used with an adapter for your 5-flat trailer connector. You will need the Adapter 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter, # 20036. The included blue wire splices into your vehicles reverse light wire with the included quick splice. I have included a video featuring the installation of this adapter on a similar vehicle. I also linked to an FAQ article that explains some strategies for running the power wire from the rear to the front of the vehicle.
