For starters, you'll need to determine if your CR-V is capable of towing the trailer you're planning on using. In my research, I found that the CR-V has a 1500 lb towing capacity, so the trailer you want to tow will need to weight less than that. I'd urge you to consult your owner's manual or your Honda dealer to confirm that capacity for yourself.

If you're wanting to tow a trailer equipped with electric brakes, you'll need to install a brake controller. I'd recommend a proportional style controller like the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160. If you click the provided link, you can see more information about brake controllers.

To install the controller, you'll need a functional 4-pole trailer connector, part # 118336. With the 4 pole in place, you'd use our Brake Controller Install Kit, part # ETBC7. The kit includes an adapter to convert the 4-pole to a 7-way trailer connector that's used by the majority of trailers that are equipped with brakes. I'll link you to the installation instructions for the install kit, plus an install video for the 4-pole and the brake controller install.

I believe the video you were speaking of is the install video for the # 118427, which isn't compatible with the 2006 CR-V.
