Brake Controller Wiring Harness for a Curt Brake Controller on a 2012 Dodge Ram
Question:
My father in law called dodge to get the wiring adapter for the brake controller he bought. They told him that he would have to get the controller and wiring adapter from the have them install it cause they would have to program the truck to it. I have never herd of this. They also said the controller had to be a 9 volt controller that they only have. $350 is a lot of money for a controller. I own a 2011 f-150 and the adapter came with my truck and just hooked up the controller and works fine. It is a time delay controller I bought for both trucks. Have you heard of this

I have heard that Dodge dealers will tell customers this exact information. The thing is that all that might be true if installing the Dodge controller. But for an aftermarket controller I have not heard that you have to use a 9 Volt controller or that the computer has to be reprogrammed.
We have had plenty of customers with 2012 Rams install aftermarket controllers without any issues. All you need is the proper brake controller wiring harness. For Curt brake controller # C74VV you would need harness # C51438.
One end plugs into the controller and the other end plugs into the factory port on the truck. this port is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, and it is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.
