How to Carry Two 70 lb Kayaks with a 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
Hi, i want to haul 2 older long sea kayaks - approx 70 lbs each - on my 2008 outback. i have factory installed bars. i understand their weight limit is 100 lbs? so, do i have them replaced? that sounds like a big/expensive deal... once i replace them, can i haul the boats? Also, i want a rack that will allow me to load/unload the boats alone and im a 58inch woman and not overly strong - average. It would seem that a systme where i can roll the boats up and carry them flat would be easier than a J system where they have to be on their sides - is this true? i cant afford the gas- assist system. what type of rack do you recommend? thanks!

If the roof capacity of your 2008 Subaru Outback is 100 lbs there isn't a safe way you can carry two 70 lb kayaks.
The only real option I would have for you would be an expensive one, but it would allow for easy loading and unloading.
You will need a hitch like the part # 75560 so that you can tow a rack and roll Yakima trailer like part # Y08106. From there you would need a couple J-style kayak carriers like part # Y04073.
To complete the towing setup you will also need the ball mount kit # 989900 and the wiring harness part # 118461.
