Question:

My Avenger is an RT with dual exhaust. Will this hitch fit with no problems? Im concerned with having to lower the exhaust system to install. Thanks

The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 24871, will fit on your 2008 Dodge Avenger RT. You will have to temporarily lower the exhaust to install any of the available hitches for your vehicle. Lowering the exhaust is not as difficult as it might seem. You would remove the exhaust hangers on both sides and the exhaust will just hang there while you install the hitch. I have included a link to the instructions below. I have included a video in which one of our installers uses a strap to support the exhaust to keep from damaging or bending it.

Since all of the hitches require lowering the exhaust to install, you might as well consider the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36448. This is a Class II hitch that can carry more weight (3,500 gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight capacity). This hitch is also more economical than the Class I Hidden Hitch (2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight capacity). You would need to add a drawbar with the Draw-Tite hitch, # 36065, but when all is said and done, cost is comparable and you will have a hitch that can carry more weight. I have included a link to the installation details for this hitch below.

For a ball, I recommend # 19256 (1-7/8 inch) or # 19258, (2 inch). The ball diameter needs to match the coupler on a trailer.

For any of the hitches for your 2008 Dodge Avenger, I also recommend the Draw-Tite Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118445. This is a T-one harness that plugs in line with your vehicles taillights. It comes with a powered converter that connects to the vehicle battery. I have included installation instructions for this wiring harness below.
