Installing a Draw-Tite Activator Brake Controller on a 2011 Kia Sorento

Question:

Installing above mentioned brake controller on a 2011 kia sorento, 3.5 eng. with keyless start. Wires for stop lite switch are allmost impossible to get at, does any one make an adapter to connect brake controller red wire to stop lite switch wire? If an adapter is not availble, can you tell me when approximatlely one will be availble. Can you also tell me what color the correct wire to tap into is, because as I refered to before these wires are extremely hard to get at to test with a test lite.

I understand how difficult wiring can be at times. I once had to insert myself between the backseat and the rear trunk wall on a 1967 Cadillac Sedan Deville in order to run some wires.

The 2011 Kia Sorento does not have an available brake controller wiring harness that plugs into any ports on your vehicle. Any brake controller installation will require hard wiring the vehicle. The first part you will need is the, # C59496. This kit comes with a powered Modulite converter to protect your vehicles sensitive wiring. I have included a link to the installation instructions for this kit below.

After the # C59496 is installed, you would install the 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This, of course, requires that you attach that stoplight switch to the red wire of the brake controller. I do not really have any tips on making this easier, especially with the way vehicles are designed now-a-days. You could attach a wire to the red brake controller wire, run it underneath the vehicle, to the taillight assembly, and attach it to the wire that has a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed. But I recommend installing the brake controller in the traditional manner. I have included a link to an FAQ on installing a brake controller from scratch that may help as well.
