Where Does Battery Isolation Solenoid Install and Can Vehicle Alternator Overcharge RV Batteries

Question:

im assuming that given the length of the ignition source wire to solenoid this isolator is located under the vehicle dash? im lost. will the vehicle alternator possibly overcharge the rv batteries causing damage? does the ignition source wire plug into the fuse box in the cab or the box in the engine bay? btw. the brophy tie downs and timbrens system from you folks have proved invaluable.

The battery isolation solenoid, # PK5231201, is usually installed in the engine compartment. There are several possible ignition sources you could use. The radio is a popular choice. What you could do is use a fuse tap for the radio fuse and run the wire to the 12 volt input on the solenoid. Any 12 volt source that only has power with the key on will work.

The vehicle alternator would have to be very, very strong and the wire gauge used very large for the alternator to be able to push back enough current to even charge the batteries on a trailer. So I would not worry at all about it overcharging them.

Glad to hear that the tie downs and Timbrens are working out well for you!
