I spoke with a local Dodge technician and he told me that you would have to have the VIN number ran by the dealer to determine if your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 has overload springs. Apparently what they do is run the VIN and pull up the options. However, if overload springs were installed by anyone other than the dealer, they would not have record.

We did some further research and found a more definitive answer after talking with Cequent. On the 2500 and 3500 series Dodge Ram, there will be two extra rubber jounce bumpers installed over the spring pack on both ends. These will be 10 inches from the spring attachment points. If you see these, then you have overload springs. You would then need Bracket Kit for 6005 Installation Kit, # 58186. If you determine you do not have overload springs, use Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Custom Installation Kit with Brackets and Rails, # RP50040-58.
