Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed with Cummins

Question:

I am looking to buy a 27-30 ft fifth wheel motorhome gvwr ~ 10000-12000 lbs like a Cherokee Bunkhouse or Keystone Cougar and haul it with a 2006 Dodge Cummins 2500 quad cab with a 6 ft 4inch box. Will this work? Thank you.

From the research I did it looks like the towing capacity for a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins has a towing capacity of 12,800 lbs depending on how it is equipped.

Sounds like you are looking at the correct weight range of trailers for your truck (which looks great by the way).

Now since you have a short bed truck you are going to need to get a slider fifth wheel hitch so that you can make tight turns without cab/trailer overhang interference. The hitch will slide back and will allow the trailer to have enough clearance to not hit your truck cab. I pulled up pictures of both trailer and the Keystone Cougar is going to give you better turning clearance since it has an angled nose.

I would recommend the Demco Hijacker part # DM8550034 because this 18k hitch will automatically slide when you are making sharp turns which will save you the hassle of having to get out and slide the hitch back every time you get in a parking lot.

For a rail kit you would then want the custom install kit part # DM8552016-71 which is a custom fit rail kit designed for your truck.
