Air Bag and Compressor Recommendation for 2013 Chevrolet Silverado HD Short Bed with 3000-lb Camper

Question:

I am looking for airbags for my 2013 Chevy Silverado HD short bed. I have a lance camper that weighs about 3000 lbs and there is some squat. I need an air compressor that is on board and maybe can be used remote. I will use mostly on highway for long trips and maybe on some easy off road infrequently. My budget is about $700. I would also like to know about how long for an install by a trained service

For your application with a 3000-lb camper in your 2013 Chevrolet Silverado HD Short Bed the air spring kit I suggest is the Air Lift # AL88338. This kit fits both 2WD and 4WD versions of the truck.

What makes this kit ideal for your application is that these air bags are actually hybrids - they are a combination of an air spring and a rubber jounce-style bumper in one product. What makes these great for your situation is that when you're on the highway you'll have the adjustment capability of an air bag system, yet when you're off-roading the rubber jounce springs will help prevent the truck from bottoming out on rougher roads. They will also protect the air springs from damage - air springs cannot be operated when they are empty; 5-lbs minimum pressure must be maintained at all times.

These hybrid air springs will not increase the truck's weight carrying capacity but they will allow you to level the vehicle when its loaded with your camper and they will give you a more stable ride for highway and off-road driving.

With this kit you have a choice of remote-controlled compressors from Air Lift. Their WirelessONE Compressor System, part # AL25980 that you referenced, gives you a single-path compressor, meaning both bags will get the same inflation pressure. This system's wireless remote gives you the convenience of easy pressure adjustment from the comfort of the driver's seat and also includes a built-in display. This system combined with the recommended air springs will come in close to your budget target.

If you want independent side-to-side adjustment capability for leveling the truck then a 2-path kit is also available, part # AL74000. This system also features a wireless digital controller.

In terms of installation time, when we install these systems on customer's trucks the time required for both the air bag and the compressor installation is roughly 5 hours.
