Towing a Small Tear Drop Trailer and 2 Bikes at the Same Time in One Trailer Hitch

Question:

I know you said it is not designed for towing any type trailer. Does this include the small trailers under 5,000 lbs like a Tear or T@B Trailer? I dont think a hitch receiver could be installed on something that small. The small trailer seems to be coming back into popularity. Is there a dual hitch I could use? 2012 Toyota Hylander V6 Limited with tow package. Want to tow 2 bikes + 2015 T@B Quickst@rt CS-S GAWR 2900 lbs

The Roadmaster dual hitch receiver # RM-077-4 cannot be used with any trailer so you cannot use it with, well, any trailer.

I do have a great solution for you. You can use the dual purpose ball mount # MT70066. This ball mount has a 2 inch receiver on top for a bike rack or cargo carrier. And of course you would use the lower ball mount portion to tow the trailer.

The ball hole is 1 inch in diameter so for a 2 inch ball use # 63845 and for a 1-7/8 inch use # 19260. Be sure that the combined weight of the trailer's tongue weight, bike rack, and bikes, does not exceed the 750 pound overall tongue weight capacity of the D210. Given the weight of the trailer and just 2 bikes you will likely not be anywhere near the max of the ball mount so no worries.

The use of a dual receiver for towing, such as # MT70066, will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. So if the tongue weight capacity is 350 pounds, using the adapter would reduce that to 175 pounds. It also puts a lot more stress on the trailer hitch.

The D210 ball mount does not reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch because it is just a ball mount and not an adapter or extension.
