Spare Trailer Tire for a 1968 Shasta Travel Trailer with ST175/80R13 Tires

Question:

Im restoring a 1968 Shasta 12foot travel trailer with Carlisle ST175/80/R13 tires. The rear bumper on the trailer is heavy angle iron. Do they make a donut lightweight spare tire and wheel - and spare tire carrier - that I could mount on the rear bumper?

Trailers do not have a donut type of spare available as an option. Trailer tires are built differently than passenger vehicle tires. They are made with a thicker sidewall to handle more vertical load. A donut would not be sufficient. You would just use the same size tire and wheel as a spare as what is already on the trailer. In this case use an ST175/80R13 tire.

I have included a link to the right to all of the tire and wheel combos we have in size ST175/80R13.

We have a lot of spare tire carriers you could potentially use. I have included a link for you. For a bumper mount you will need to box off the bumper by have some steel plates welded to it by a professional welder. Make sure that the bumper is rated for carrying weight.
