Availability of Ball Mount with 9 Inch Rise for Homemade Trailer with 1/1/4 Inch Hitch Receiver

Question:

I have a Scion Xb, 2005. I installed the appropriate hitch which is 1-1/4 shank and it is rated for 2000 lbs GTW and 200 Lbs TW. I bought and built a trailer and now I find myself with a 9inch gap between the height of the shank in the scion and the height I need the ball to mount the trailer level. I have spent quite a bit of time researching your site and the best I found was this Class 2 ball mount..BM96. But the rise is only 5.5 inches. I still have another 3.5 inches to go to get the trailer level. What can you suggest for me?

The 1-1/4 inch shank drawbar that we carry with the highest rise is the Brophy Class II Drawbar 5-1/2 inch Rise or 6 inch Drop, # BM96, which you reference. At this time we do not carry a 1-1/4 inch shank Drawbar with a 9 inch rise. Also on a class I or II trailer hitch you have to use the ball mount specified by the trailer hitch manufacturer or it voids the hitch warranty.

The other option is to raise the trailer height. There are a couple of ways to do this. If the trailer uses double-eye leaf springs and the stack is mounted under the axle you can use an over/under conversion kit, # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8 inch round axles or # K71-385-00 for 3 inch round axles.

Otherwise you would have to have taller hangers welded on which would require a professional welder to perform the installation. I have linked all the hangers we carry. Please note that raising the height of a trailer makes it more susceptible to sway.
