Troubleshooting Tekonsha Primus IQ Installed on 2013 Silverado Pulling Horse Trailer
Question:
We have 2013 Silverado 1/2 with the Tekonsha Primus IQ. We are blowing fuses in the truck fuse box when we hook the trailer up. Others who have borrowed the horse trailer are not having the same issue with their trucks. How do we go about trouble shooting this? When we bought the truck new, the controller in our old truck was not taken out by the dealership, but they gave us this controller. Not sure if it was new or not, would guess it was used. We had the controller installed at a local truck / trailer place that specializes in these. Worked great for about a year but now it blows the fuses in truck so we have no trailer brakes and no running lights. Have tried using the factory plug in the bumper and the one that the truck place installed in the bed for the gooseneck use. Get the same result, blown fuse.

The first thing I'd suggest you do is troubleshoot the controller as outlined in the article I've linked for you. This will help you determine if the controller itself is faulty or if the wiring in the vehicle is at fault.
What fuses are blowing? Knowing this would help narrow things down.
