Expert Reply:

You are indeed correct that there have been issues with the OEM transmission cooler inside the radiators of many Nissan vehicles. When these fail the result is coolant contaminating the transmission.

Recently Nissan has extended the factory warranties on radiators in 2005 - 2010 Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra models. You might want to contact your Nissan dealer for details. Your best option may be to have the original radiator replaced under warranty by Nissan.

The coolers we offer for your Frontier, such as the Derale # D13503, are intended to supplement but not replace the OEM cooler installed in the radiator. You will need to replace your radiator/cooler with a suitable OEM or aftermarket unit, but you certainly can then add a supplementary cooler like the Derale # D13503.

For reference I have linked two articles concerning coolers that may be of interest to you.
