Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, on the driver's side. You will have to remove some interior trim paneling to access this harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Wiring Harness was as described, and perfect for my particular application. Shipping was extremely prompt, and follow up service was gratifyingly good. Would certainly recommend this seller.

2003 Honda Element

Less than $20 for a custom 5wire-to-4wire adapter=great deal. It's a little tricky getting the passenger rear side panel loose enough to gain access to the plug-in point on a 2003 Element but the instructions were decent. 2 of the 6 screw points were not pointed out but the screw count was correct. Prolly shoulda said right rear seat must be removed and reinstalled. Could have highlighted plastic tab positions that require care instead of just generally warning to not break any of them. A little surprised that there was NO identification on the module itself, not even a part# sticker. Took me about an hour to install but that included some major housekeeping/detailing; dirt accumulates in areas not normally seen. Dirt accumulates in the commonly seen areas in MY cars too. That was a lot of nit picky stuff; I am very pleased. Only took 4 days for value shipping (USPS) to SE PA.

I do recommend using a trim panel removal tool to safely loosen trim panels and remove fasteners. Part # ALL648544 helps to safely remove plastic or metal fasteners from door panels, dashboards, and consoles.

Still works great after a year has been really useful. Ive also installed one for a 2003 Chevy Tracker to replace a failed Curt.

Been about a year now and the trailer wiring harness I ordered for my 1999 tracker plugged in to the car harness and has worked very well

by:

By temporarily removing the factory jack from its nest and removing the left rear tail light assembly, I had ample access to drill routing holes and plenty of room for cable wrapped excess wire. Piece of cake install.

  • All Trailer Lights Work Except Turn Signals w/Curt Wiring Harness Installed on 1991 Suzuki Sidekick
When just the turn signals are not working on the trailer, it is a bit of a strange situation because the brake lights and turn signals are on the same circuit. So, if the turn signals or brake lights are working then the other function should be as well. But there are situations when this can occur, for example on a vehicle that has combined brake and turn signals but also has a dedicated brake light wire. If your Sidekick has combined brake and turn signals, then you would attach the...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 1998 Suzuki Sidekick Sport
For the 1998 Suzuki Sidekick Sport Model, the Curt Class I, part # C11024 is a confirmed fit. According to Curt, their # 11128 Class I hitch is NOT a fit for a Sport model Sidekick. If you'll be using the hitch for light-duty towing, consult the owner's manual to ensure you don't exceed the towing capabilities of the vehicle. The hitch has a 200 lb tongue weight/2000 lb towing capacity, which will be limited by the towing capacity of the vehicle if it's less than that of the hitch. You...

  • Tow Bar Wiring to Flat Tow a 1996 Geo Tracker Behind an RV
Yes, from what I see your 1996 Geo Tracker does indeed have a separate wiring system. But wiring harness # HM41245 is designed only for the Tracker to tow a trailer and not for the Tracker to be towed behind an RV. You will need a different wiring harness. There aren't any vehicle specific tow bar harnesses that will plug into your Tracker so I recommend using a diode kit # RM-154. This will make it so that the lighting will be done by the Tracker's tail lights (powered from the RV via...

  • Could Hopkins Trailer Wiring Harness # HM41245 Get Hardwired to 1994 Suzuki Sidekick
If you wanted to hardware the # HM41245 to your vehicle you'd have to cut the connector off and then use a circuit tester like part # PTW2992 to test the wires of your taillight assemblies for voltage to determine their function. The white wire would get grounded, the brown wire runs to the running lights, red to the brake lights, green to the right turn blinker, and yellow to the left turn blinker.

  • Location of Trailer Harness Connector on 1996 Geo Tracker 4X4 Automatic Without Jack Compartment
Since your 1996 Geo Tracker 4X4 does not have the jack storage compartment shown in the installation instructions, the trailer harness connector is likely to be located behind one of the tail light assemblies or one of the rear interior trim panels. This Hopkins harness, part # HM41245, fits both 2-door and 4-door versions of the Tracker. Start on the driver-side and remove the tail light assembly. Please see the included photograph. This is the most-likely location for the connector....

To be able to tow a trailer with your 1997 Suzuki Sidekick Sport you will need to start with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11024 you were looking at but you will still need the following accessories to complete your towing setup: Vehicle wiring harness: Hopkins Plug-in Simple Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM41245. • Location of Trailer Wiring Harness Connector on 1996 Geo Tracker
The connector that the Hopkins harness, part # HM41245 plugs into is located in the jack storage compartment. The jack storage compartment is located in the cargo area of the vehicle on the driver's side. Locate the white connector and remove the tape covering the end of it and plug the Hopkins harness into the connector. To see the install instructions, click on the provided link.

  • Where is the Location of the Trailer Wiring Harness Plug on a 1996 Geo Tracker
On most of the Geo Tracker models the plug is located behind the storage unit on the driver's side rear of the vehicle. However, there were a few models where the jack was not stored at the rear of the vehicle, like your 1996 Geo Tracker. In this case, the trailer wiring connection will be located behind one of the rear tail light assemblies, most likely the one on the driver's side, but it might be on the passenger's side as well. The attached picture will show you what the trailer connection...
