This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind your rear bumper, on the driver's side. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness behind the interior access panel in your rear cargo area, on the driver's side. Once you've plugged in the converter, insert the included fuses and relay into your fuse panel as indicated in the instructions.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-Pole flat trailer connector. This product is designed to fit a 2009 to 2011 Honda Pilot. It's going to provide a four-way flat connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. This is designed for use with a factory tow package. It is compatible with 5-Pole, 6-Pole, and 7-Pole adapters. The adapters are sold separately. It does come with your taillight converter.
This is going to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer's. The power module connects directly to the vehicle battery though the wiring which is going to prevent overloading the vehicle's electrical system. This unit's designed to connect quickly and easily. It's going to come with the required relay to activate the functions. Basically, what you'll need to do is locate the connection point behind the rear bumper and plug in the harness.
Then the converter module connects in the rear cargo area. It does come with detailed installation instructions to walk you through the entire installation process. It's going to indicate exactly where those connection points are on your Honda Pilot. Once you have the two units connected, you'll need to make a good ground connection. The white wire right here, with the ring terminal attached to it is your ground wire. Then you'll need to mount the converter box.
It does have some double side adhesive foam tape on the back. It's got a couple mounting areas on it, one on each side. You can get it mounted to an out of the way location with the included ni-ties 00:01:29. Once you have that done, you will need to install the fuses. It's going to have a 7.5 amp fuse and a 20 amp fuse, along with a relay. These are going to get connected in the fuse box located in the vehicle.
Then the 20 amp J-Case fuse gets installed in the fuse box located under the hood of the vehicle. Now, once your installation is complete, the four way connectors are going to be stowed beneath your vehicle near the trailer hitch. We do recommend using a mounting bracket to keep it secure. Mounting brackets are sold separately. It's also recommended that you use a small amount of terminal grease on all of your electrical connections, like the plugs on the vehicle, and the 4-Pole connector itself to help prevent corrosion. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights, we're looking at three amps per circuit; and for the tail lights, we're looking at six amps per circuit. It worked as was described, I plugged and it played. Was a easy install, took me about half an hour. I used it quite a few times without any problems. It works with Uhaul trailers. Used it on my 2011 Honda pilot Lx. I would recommend it to anyone.
