Video Transcript for Erickson Roof-Rack Cargo Net Review

Hi, everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at this Erickson roof rack cargo net. It's gonna be a great way to secure a wide variety of items in something like a roof basket like this and kind of be a one-stop shop solution so that we don't have to get all kinds of different straps out and individually tie things down. You can just drape this whole net over all of your cargo, get it secured with all of the included hooks, and you've got a really strong hold on your stuff. Let's check it out. So this net is stretchable.

And unstretched, it's going to be 36 inches wide by 48 inches long. We're using that with a pretty equally sized cargo basket right now, and I feel like it's the perfect amount of stretch. It's tight in some spots where I felt like it was really difficult to get hooked onto some of the bars on the cargo basket itself, but that's good because that means everything's sized pretty appropriately. And we're actually taking out a lot of that slack and getting a pretty firm hold over our cargo. As far as how it's holding everything because it's a more stretchy material, I can get a little bit of movement out of our stuff.

It's not just rock-solid and unmoving. But honestly, that's fine. Everything's still very stable, and it takes a good amount of pressure for me to get it to move. So I'm not worried about any of our stuff security-wise. And it's also kind of nice because it's not putting too much pressure on our stuff.

So if we have something plastic like this tote that we're maybe worried about getting damaged by cranking down a ratchet strap, we don't have to worry about that so much. Everything's held in place with the 12 included hooks. These are spaced all around the net, and they're gonna be constructed of a plastic. So if you do happen to maybe drop one, it hits the roof, it's not going to damage the paint. And they're pretty easy to get set up, just hooking them onto various bars around the basket.

I will say that the opening here isn't super large, so if you have any sort of thicker bars, it's not going to be able to hook onto those super well. But for the vast majority of baskets, I think it'll be just fine on any of these smaller bars underneath. That's really all there is to it. It's a pretty simple net, nothing too fancy about it, but it is very convenient. Just make sure you size it appropriately to whatever basket or platform you plan on using it with and making sure that you've got ample tie-downs for those 12 hooks. But as long as you've got that, I think it's gonna do a great job at securing your stuff and making for less hassle with ratchet straps and cam buckle straps when you're securing stuff on your rooftop basket. Thanks for watching.

  • Recommended Cargo Net to Use with Rola Roof Cargo Basket
I recommend using the Erickson Roof-Rack Cargo Net - 36" x 48" # EM01010 with your Rola Roof Cargo Basket 59504. It's 48" unstretched but will stretch past the 54" length of the Rola basket, and is the largest cargo net we have available.

  • Hitch, Cargo Carrier, and Accessory Recommendations for 2014 Chevrolet Orlando 1LT
Yes, the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C11278, is the correct hitch for your 2014 Chevrolet Orlando 1LT. Please keep in mind that Curt does require the use of Support Strap, # 18050, for all non-trailer loads including bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt. As for a cargo carrier, the 20x48 Curt Cargo Carrier, # C18110, is a great choice. In an effort to prevent theft of your carrier, it is always...

  • Recommendation for Using Cargo Carrier Between RV and Towed Vehicle
In order to secure a cargo carrier between your RV and towed vehicle, you will just need to start with the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-4. This will slide right into the 2 inch hitch on your RV and provides two, 2 inch receivers on the other end. The bottom receiver will be used for your tow bar, while the top receiver can be used for a hitch-mounted accessory like a cargo carrier. Once this is in place, it is just a matter of choosing a cargo carrier that works well...

  • Recommended Locking Hitch Pin and Net for Curt Cargo Carrier # C18153
I recommend picking up a locking hitch pin like part # e98880. This will ensure an extra level of security for your cargo. Straps and nets are also a great idea to make sure the cargo is secured. I recommend an assortment of bungee straps like: 4-6 each of an assortment of lengths such as: # EM06664 19" and # EM06656 24" and 2-3 each of the lengths such as: # EM06658 36" and # EM06668 42" and/or cargo net, # EM01010, since there will be some bounce and movement at the...

  • Can the Surco Spare-Tire-Mounted Cargo Basket Carry 5 Gallons of Gasoline?
The Surco Spare-Tire-Mounted Cargo Basket - 19" Long x 43" Wide # SPSJ4319 has a 100 lb capacity so it absolutely can carry your 5 gallon can of gas. This carrier however is not intended for off-road use, so if used in that capacity you will be operating outside of the warranty and you will want to make sure the weight is as centered as possible to reduce torque on the shaft and mount. I recommend using the Erickson Roof-Rack Cargo Net - 36" x 48" # EM01010 for loose items and tie down...

It is the Stretch Net for Yakima MegaWarrior Roof Rack Cargo Basket # Y07081 which has upstretched dimensions of 45" long x 38" wide. This would be my first recommendation since it is made specifically for this fit. • Can 2 Cargo Bags be Stacked on Top of Each Other on a Trailer Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
I have not heard of anyone stacking two of cargo bag # 988501 on top of a carrier such as # 63153 but as long as they are properly secured to the carrier and you are within the capacity of the carrier it should work just fine. For this type of application I strongly recommend using a cargo net such as # EM01010 to help keep everything in place.

  • Cargo Net Recommendation to Secure Cargo in the Back of a Toyota Prius
A small cargo net like # EM01010 might do the trick. When it is stretched will about double in size. If the material is taught when installed then it being stretchy should not be an issue. Even if there were some slack in a stretch net, a thick and strong material might have some play but would keep items under its grasp. Securing cargo stored in a vehicle is something a lot of people are unaware of. I have not been hit by anything but I know it happens more often than people think. Keep...
