Perhaps the simplest type of heat exchanger, the tube-fin effectively cools a variety of automotive systems. The concept is simple: Fluid cools as it travels through the core by transferring heat out to the fins. The fins then provide the surface area necessary for sufficient heat exchange to take place, allowing the heat pulled from the fluid to dissipate into the surrounding air. Quick, easy and effective.

Take it a step further with a fan-mounted unit and you can be sure that there will always be optimum airflow for your tube-fin cooler no matter where it is mounted or what sort of environment you are traveling through, making it perfect for those hot days spent sitting in traffic.

Great cooler upgrade for my 1997 GMC Yukon! Little delivery damage, but was so easy to bend those fins back to original shape so no worries!
Nice that you had proper dimension measurements online, so it was easy to figure out what kind I can fit in my truck. Complete kit had everything I needed to get it done!
Modified old cooler bracket little bit and that was it. Works great!

by:

I put the transmission cooler on a 2006 ram 2500 it keeps it 30° cooler than the OEM transmission cooler

by:

Works solidly, much better than the optional stock tranny cooler. It doesn't get temps as low as another one I've had, but it doesn't leak like that one either! Always keeps temps within acceptable range, though at the higher end of acceptable when pulling 7-8k in 110*F outside temps and hills. Be prepared to fabricate a mount for it, not a one size fits all kit!

Removing the front bumper/grill on my Odyssey was a must! Installation was pretty much straight forward once you confirm the feed, and return connection points. Mounting the actual cooler to the front radiator was the easiest part of the job. My Odyssey made two 650 mile trips pulling 2050 lbs with no problems so I’m very happy with the cooler!

I have always loved etrailer and their service. Once again order another of these coolers. Drop my temp from 240 to 170-190 also remember to order extra hose, the adapter if needed for your vehicle make, mount kits. Love it. Perfect this one is on a 07 GMC Yukon XL always add an extra cooler on your 1500 gmc or chevys they help out so much for them.

good product form a great company !
my
only complaint is this was listed as for my specific truck, but the "insta-dapt" supplied doesn't fit the Dodge truck of my year. even doing my research ahead of time, it seems to be hit or miss whether it would fit as some of them come with 5/16 fittings and some (like mine) come with 9/16 fittings. it doesnt matter the engine size, even other 3.7L dodge trucks of the same year have 5/16 fittings... I think Dodge made a change middle year, but never let the consumer know as mine is a late year '04.
no dig deal as I was able to assemble it anyways and got it up and running great and both the radiator and trans are running much cooler now !
I attached the D12902 to the bumper as you will see in attached images.
2 attached images are just before finishing, bumper hasnt been attached yet, one of them is after everything was complete.

I just installed this on my chevy avalanche.
Flipped
the bottom brace around in order to mount to.
The hardest part is getting the hoses on the cooler and over the return line.
I ended up getting a 90 deg quick connection coming from the radiator instead of using the one I got from etrailer. This keeps the hose from bending as much.
Also purchase the installation kit with a hose as you will need an extra hose.
After install I wish I would have went with the next bigger unit which is 10 high instead of 7 1/2 as I had plenty of room.

by:

Good product. The only problem, the hose that is supplied diameter is way to small for the nipples on the cooler. Had to heat up the hose to put on, even then extremely tight fit.

by:

I was able to mount it but never able to actually install it and hook it up completely.

by:

Excellent, way better than the WeatherTech rain guards I had on there before.

by:

This fan looks like it will do a great job.
No
more overheated transmission.
Pulling a trailer in stop and go traffic on a 100 degree day - No problem :-)

by:

Appears well constructed and delivered with all parts necessary for installation. Rating base on just that. Have not installed but, when installed and operational I’ll rewrite review.

by:

Installed this in a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. Mounted it above the factory cooler that was already in the truck. (Flat fin side towards the a/c condenser). I used the insta-mount zip tie kit and also the flex metal mounts to anchor the cooler to the top of the factory cooler bracket as close to the a/c condenser as possible. The vertical bracket (part of the truck) that runs right down the middle of the a/c condenser has to be cut. All fairly minor fabrication. Hack saw and hand drill stuff. The fan has to be reversed to become a pusher. Followed the hood release cable from the interior to run 12 volts to power the fan on at ignition. Haven’t hooked the trailer up yet so I don’t know if this will resolve the hot tranny situation. ( I could smell the tranny getting hot before especially when we stopped at lights). Change your fluid too. etrailer delivered quickly and the cooler was well boxed and untouched.

by:

Hose barely fits on the fittings of the fittings of the cooler. It was very frustrating.

by:

Wanted to give my Honda better ability to handle a tow. this baby does the job. Transmission definitely cooler operation since the install. The install was simple and straight forward.

by:

After one of use on a 2005 Honda Pilot, everything is holding up just fine. The one star less is because of the difficulty in installing it on this particular vehicle. Although this is a universal component, it is MUCH easier to install on pickup trucks. Best of luck with a brand new rubber hose going on with any sort of ease.

by:

i put this unit in my 2008 NIssan Titan pickup. we are going to take a 9000 mile trip this summer pulling a 27 ft HI Lo camper. The instructions were very generic. specific unit instructions would be very helpful. the grill was difficult to get out until i found a Youtube video for that. the hose provided was to short, so I made a run to the parts store. the unit appears to be well made.

by:

I purchased this for my C6 Corvette A6 transmission. I did, however, bypass the radiator and only use the transmission cooler for the C6. I purchased and used the Derale Radiator Adapter fitting 259-13035 for both the top and bottom and just capped them off to keep debris out of the reservoir. I also had to make some custom mounting brackets. This is an excellent product and it keeps the tranny in a great temperature range.

by:

Can't say anything bad about the unit. It was installed in a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I use to haul trailers occasionally that weigh up to 6000 lbs. So far, I've never overheated the transmission at all, which I attribute to the addition of this cooler. Once again, thanks for a great product.

by:

I mounted this fan in the puller position on my auxiliary transmission cooler so that I can tow a 15ft travel trailer with my minivan. Installation was sweet. There was an instruction page in the box and enough parts for mounting. I was surprised at how much air this thing moves. I wouldn't call it noisy since the fan spins smoothly and quietly when I tested it out in the open, but when mounted in the congested grill area of my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan I can definitely hear it hum more than the stock radiator fan. It pushes that much air. I would definitely recommend this product.

by:

This fan is for a project that will not be completed until the middle of 2014 or later. I plan to use it to increase the air flow through the air conditioner condenser in my 1969 Corvair convertible. I will be ordering another fan since my design requires two fans for greatest efficiency and the flow rate for these fans is on the low side. The 500 cfm fans comes with too many items that are useless for my application thereby being too expensive.

Not sure of the btu output of this but it worked perfectly fine in my jeep with the factory transmission. Upgraded to a built transmission and as it seems ill need a lot more cooling capacity. No rust or corrosion so far. The clamps it ships with are a gigantic transmission hazzard... had a clamp split right down the middle on me in my drive way thankfully. I would buy different clamps if you didn't want fluid puking out of a hose at 90+ psi and kill your trans.

by:

Ive got a 1999 4runner that had the unfortunate luck of having the integrated transmission cooler line rupture inside my radiator. needless to say, the transmission didnt agree very well with having engine coolant running through it and finally died out on me. I bought this transmission cooler to isolate the transmission and the engine cooling systems. The cooler arrived a day ahead of schedule, which is always a bonus. I didnt rate it at 5 stars because I havent had a chance to install it yet and see how it performs, but judging by the reviews that I have read so far, the customer service provided and the prompt delivery, I would say that this transmission cooler will keep my truck running for a good long while. Everything pictured arrived in the box and I have no doubt that it will perform as expected. I will definitely recommend this product and this company to my friends!

by:

This is a customer service review not a product review.
Leeza J. was very helpful in helping me get everything needed for adding a secondary transmission cooler to my Chevy truck. I ordered 3 different items and the one item was not in stock and I was promised that I would be notified when it arrived. I was notified that the item was in stock 2 days later and I received the package a few days after that. Very good service that impressed me.

by:

Very easy install, absolutely no leaks anywhere in the system after putting it into service. I did have to get additional hose for the install due to the location I chose for the cooler (personal preference). I centered it on the bumper side of the radiator to provide the best air flow. Remember to get a quart of transmission fluid to accomodate the larger system volume after the install. I took my grill off to provide the most room for putting the cooler in rather than trying to wedge it between the radiator and grill, made install the nylon fasteners through the radiator and cooler much easier. Should last for many years.

  • Recommended Brake Controller and Transmission Cooler for 2004 Ford Expedition 5.4L 4×4 for Towing
The best way to go for steep climbs and down hills is to have a good brake controller for the descent so you can use the manual adjuster as needed to apply brakes to only the trailer and the brake pedal to use brakes for both vehicle and trailer. I recommend a proportional brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. You will want to make sure you don't overheat your brakes by using them too often, but still use them as needed to maintain control. For the up hill climbs, your...

  • Where To Install Transmission Cooler In 2005 Jeep Liberty
Since the Derale Dyno-Cool Remote Cooler with Fan and Hose Barb Inlets - Class III # D12742 you were looking at for your 2005 Jeep Liberty 3.7L V6 has a fan to make sure it always get enough air flow over the fins to dissipate heat there is not a specific location that it needs to mounted, and can be mounted anywhere you have room. This setup measures 12-3/4" wide x 10-1/4" tall x 3-5/8" thick as shown in the included diagram, so I recommend measuring how much space you have to work with...

  • Transmission Cooler with Fan for 2005 Jeep Liberty
The Derale Transmission Cooler you referenced, # D13503, is an excellent choice to protect the transmission of your 2005 Liberty, however it doesn't contain a fan. If you are planning on really pushing your vehicle off-road at low speeds where getting sufficient airflow through the cooler might be a problem, you will be better off using a cooler with a fan, like part # D12742. The unit is 13-5/8 by 10-1/4 by 3-1/4 inch thick, so you would need enough space in your desired mounting location....

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler for 2005 Jeep Liberty
The Derale Transmission Cooler you referenced, # D13503 would be an excellent choice to protect the transmission of your 2005 Liberty. An aftermarket cooler will keep your transmission fluid in the optimal temperature range, below 200 degrees. The optimal installation position would be directly behind the grille, in front of the radiator and A/C condenser. Because of the plate-fin design of the transmission cooler, plenty of air will be able to pass through it and reach the A/C condenser...

  • Installation of Derale Transmission Cooler on 2009 Isuzu Truck
The Isuzu KB300 is the sold as the D-Max in the states. To remove the grille you will start by removing fasteners on the top of the trill underneath the hood. Once you have removed those fasteners and the top panel is loose then you will have 4 clips on the bottom to release to pull the grille straight out the front. Be careful not to pull up as that may break the tabs on the bottom of the grille that hold it in place. Once you have gained access you will be able to install a transmission...
