Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch Operation

Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Operation

The Curt Double Lock underbed gooseneck trailer hitch provides a sturdy, secure connection for towing your gooseneck trailer and also allows for a clean, unobtrusive look for your truck bed when you aren't towing. To tow, simply pull the included handle out to unlock the hitch. Then insert the chrome-plated hitch ball into the ball hole. You may need to rotate the ball to line it up with the dual locking pins. When the ball drops into place, rotate the handle counterclockwise until the locking pins snap into position. Because there are 2 locking pins instead of 1, you get extra security for your towing setup.

Get full bed access when you're not towing. Just remove the ball, flip it upside down, drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch, and use the handle to lock the ball in place. A rubber cover is included with the Double Lock. When the ball is stowed upside down in the hitch, place this cover over the ball hole to keep out dirt and grime and create a clean look for your vehicle.

Unit installed and pulled my fifth wheel to provincetowne Mass. Unhooked and pulled the ball out and picked up some firewood. Nice flat surface. Love it. Only way to go.

Everything is working as it should. Great Equipment

by:

Great value and durability. Self install in about 3 hours and has remained solid since then. Put in about 10k miles towing a 31 foot trailer with it.

by:

Very pleased with the customer service throughout the purchase process. I paid to have it installed and the shop that installed it said that it went in very easily! I've not put it to use yet but I really like the fact that the ball can be flipped over for a flat bed.

by:

Fast shipping, easy installation.

Wow, what can I say, this
is an extremely solid, well built unit.
I knew it was about 90 pound, but when you take it out of the boxes the quality really hits you. Everything fits just as it is supposed to. The bolts are all Grade 8, and when you get everything torqued you know this unit is truly part of the truck frame.
Maybe a little over kill for our 5500# Escape 5.0 TA, but I wanted that confidence while connected, and I got it.
Coupled this with the Anderson Ultimate Hitch in Black Out and couldn't be happier.

by:

Great product but the instructions are a little muddied. I replaced a welded in under bed gooseneck hitch with this unit. I chose this unit over a single pin gooseneck flip ball for the added mental security as well as potential for less rattle

by:

I had already had to return 2 hitches to another company because they sent the wrong ones. I ordered from etrailer.com and got the right hitch the first time and it has been amazing! The directions wanted the hole drilled in the wrong spot in my bed so before you start drilling make sure you measure and check and double check EVERYTHING. But that was literally the only thing that wasn't perfect. I haul valuable lives with my truck and this hitch has been great!

by:

Easy installation. We had 3 guys and were done in 20 minutes less than instructions said. Works fine as frog's hair! When measuring the hole in the bed remember to measure from the front of the bed and rear! Then look underneath for the bed crossmember.

by:

I really like the hitch as it was easy to install and being a turnover ball it leaves my bed free when I need to haul something. Very sturdy product and I would recommend it to anyone looking for this style of gooseneck hitch.

by:

Great product w great instructions. It was an affordable package that installed decently. We have used the hitch for a year now and have had zero issues w it.

The only reason for not giving it 5 stars was because the cross bars that go between the frame rails needed to have the threaded holes chased w a tap to remove the powder coating prior to installation. I initially tried installing it without chasing the threads and the bolts started to get very tight before the parts even pulled together.

Once the threads were clean, everything assembled very well.

The hitch takes time to install, at least if you want it to look good and be correct.

On a 1500 ram, you will probably need to install some form of helper spring or air bags to prevent the rear from squatting from the weight of the gooseneck trailer…the factory 1500 coil springs are not firm enough on their own.

by:

Got this for our new camper last year. Did the installation myself with a few buddies very straight forward directions. We use a Reese goose box with the curt 4” off set ball on our 08 short bed truck! Would definitely recommend

by:

It mounted perfectly in my 2015 F150. Getting the rubber seal on, was a chore. Torquing the bolts was tricky in confined spaces under the truck and in the wheel well, but it can be done with a 2' torque wrench and all bolts are reachable. 1-2 clicks at a time. There's no way this is a 90 minute job for a novice, especially without a lift. Plan on 4 hours. the 43.5" measurement adding 1/8" with bedliner is dead on. Measure 3 times to be sure. The instruction are good, but it's easier to follow the installation video.

by:

I like the hitch but when ai am pulling my trailers, and I am moving them around at low speeds it seems that there is a good amount of movement in the hitch and the feel in the truck. I’m not sure what that is but I have used trucks that didn’t have that feel in them but mine definitely does. We followed all directions and torqued all bolts to the required amount. Maybe someone can shed some light on what that maybe.

Thanks

Awesome gooseneck Hitch!!!
Easy installation

Installed easily on 2015 GMC 2500 HD double cab short bed. Plenty of clearance under the bed when ball is flipped. This system makes for a clean useable bed. When I was purchasing this I was concerned about clearance of a gooseneck hitch and my transfer tank. I have a 40 gal tank that sits back from the cab a bit over 20 inches, there’s plenty of clearance for a gooseneck with a fuel tank on this short bed. The hitch has held up perfectly over the last year. I haul around 12k on steep, washboard, gravel roads.

by:

Thank you for reaching out. Definitely love the reliability and durability of this hitch, also the added clearance. I have it mounted on my 40 foot enclosed race car trailer. We towed using it 35 to 40 times to and from race tracks in 2019. Hooking it up and disconnecting it every weekend. Never gave us a single issue.

by:

this installed correctly on my 2005 dodge ram 2500 diesel per instructions for installation with air bags. I have hauled a 42 foot 3 axle car trailer for over 6,000 miles with no issues. This was a great purchase. Thank you

I think this gooseneck hitch is the best for newer Sierra/Silverado HD trucks. I installed it a week ago with the help of my father-in-law and his car lift. Took about 4 hours moving slowly and taking our time. Everything fit well and bolted right up. I also reinstalled the foil heat shield after removing one mounting ear. I did not drop the exhaust or the plastic heat shield and still got everything in.

I chose this specific kit because it did not require notching the bed seam when installing the rails. It also has a higher tongue load rating than the others and was cheaper.

The only major criticism I have is the pull wire and carriage bolts. My chassis has weld nuts and I would have preferred to use those over carriage bolts pulled into the chassis. I am thankful there were access holes almost inline with the mounting holes. That made it easy to put pressure on the bolt heads so they didn’t fall back. I also think the gasket around the big hole should be one piece to make it look cleaner. I used black silicone rtv to smooth the transition and adhere the gasket in place.

Overall I am completely satisfied with the kit and the help of Shawn B who got my order in, had it shipped that same day and followed up with me after delivery. Thanks etrailer and Shawn B.

by:

I havnt towed with it yet, but this hitch seems to be very well built. Install was easy, I'm pretty handy and it took me about an hour and a half, would have been 45 minutes if I had a helper. Hardest part was my bed is bowed from use and the cross pieces were very snug between the bed and the frame.

by:

I did the install myself on a 2019 GMC 2500 Short bed. I watched several videos before. I did not remove either mud shield or cut out/remove the heat shield. I chose not to install the chain holders since my Andersen Hitch has it's own tiedown bracket. My bed has a spray liner and therefore the edge covering would not fit the newly cut edges around the hole opening. So be sure to paint the exposed metal. In one of thg he videos a tech use a predrilled board as a guide during the drilling of the bed hole. This was a great idea. Since I chose to keep the heat shield installed I had to lift the main unit into place by sliding it up between the gas tank and rear differential unit. I think it would have been very helpful to have a tools required list before I started. Also, the tip about cleaning out the powdercoated threads was very good idea. Preptime, tapping threads, install and cleanup (tool put away) was over 6hrs....and I skipped a lot of disassembling a n.v d reassemble steps. Everything was straight forward and understandable. A lift would have been great but I used rear ramps which was enough. Make sure you get a step ladder for bed entry now. I expect it to work as expected. Seems very solid!

I installed the Curt gooseneck on my 1993 GMC 2 Wheel Dr. 2500 truck. All the components have tight tolerances. It took me eight hours. With a socket and the wrench. Laying on my back. I did have to cut the wheel well lip about 3/8 of an inch off because I could not get that front angle bar to slide in without hitting it, no way around it unless you lift the bed up and I wasn’t going to do that!!. You have to cut it.instructions do not state that. I’m very happy with the Hitch, it is definitely stout! I did have to make a notch on the outside brackets to go over my airbag bolt. I also had to remove the support bracket on the inside of the frame for the airbag and the crossmember for the spare tire to get the front angled bar in.

Reese doesn't offer a gooseneck hitch fit for your 1997 Ford F-150 short bed so we don't have a bracket kit we can recommend to fit the hitch to your truck. I went ahead and checked with Curt and and the Curt Double Lock, Flip and Store Underbed Gooseneck Hitch # C60722 is the correct fit for a gooseneck on your 2001 Ford F-150. Having said that, your truck does need to have the holes in the side rails, with the only exception being one hole that you will drill as shown in the diagram from the instructions. If for some reason your truck doesn't have these holes then the hitch won't be able to fit, but we haven't heard of or seen a truck that...
