1997 GMC Suburban

The receiver did not fit on my stock 1997 K1500 Suburban. The holes aligned but the spacing between brackets was too narrow by about 1/2” to allow flush fit with the frame. Calls were made, pictures sent and after several days I received a phone message from a technician suggesting I attempt to spread the brackets apart with a scissor jack and a 2x4. After several attempts, this etrailer.com-authorized method eventually spread the brackets enough to fit. This is far more hassle than should be required. The receiver seems to be a good build quality but simply did not fit out of the box and required significant mechanical advantage to force into a condition for proper fit.

The technician also suggested the receiver might have been bent in shipping but I don’t believe this to be so. The box, which I still have, appeared to be undamaged. All in all, not the easy installation experience I expected.

The hitch receivers are made of mild steel that flexes over potholes and road debris. They can get knocked out of alignment even if the box does not appear to be damaged. Here is a help article explaining more:

It's been a year with our hitch and we are very pleased looks great still powder coat holding up well

by:

Fits well, I replaced my old one after realizing the original had rusted out from the inside. (Check yours if you’re moving any seriously weight.) this one went on easily and hasn’t let my trailer get away. Can ask for more than that.

1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Just installed it. Went pretty smooth. That fishing wire is really handy! Make sure that you install the front ones first. The very front one on each side is inside of the box rail, and the middle one gets in the way of installation. Passenger side is really tight against the tank. They need to be fished in head first, then turn them. Took me a few minutes to get those. Very pleased, arrived quickly and in good shape. This is my second hitch from etrailer. Highly recommend. Thank you, George!

Perfect fit easy install

I have a 1994 K1500 Suburban. I ordered a new Curtis hitch to replace my old one that had rusted out. My order came in on time as projected. I ordered it on Sunday and I had it by Thursday. I installed it my self. Come to find out, I had a boxed frame. I was taken back by the fact. How was I going to install my new hitch with a boxed in frame. When I ordered the new hitch I saw a video on installation. I went back to the website and watched it. Thank God I did. I was thinking I was going to have to drop the fuel tank which is only 42 gallon and 3/4 full. Wow. The video saved my butt and a lot of time. If you have any questions on installation take 10 minutes and watch the video. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Awesome.

2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Bought my Tahoe with a rather sketchy universal hitch on it that hung down about 6 inches lower than it needed to. Was thrilled to find this class IV replacement hitch with a 1000 lb tongue weight capacity at a good price, and shipping was quick too. Installation was easy, and it's done a great job of carrying my KTM around on a hitch hauler ever since.

Ordered this receiver on a Friday afternoon. And received it the next Tuesday. Great price and free shipping, can't beat that.

I put the receiver on in about 20 minutes. Hardware was excellent. It is a bit heavy so if you have an extra set of hands available don't hesitate to use them. But you can get it on yourself.

The quality of the product is great. Nice heavy duty piece with a nice paint job!

I also installed the 7 pin wiring kit and picked up our camper! Everything worked perfect!!

Highly recommend this receiver!!!

1999 Chevrolet Suburban

I installed this receiver hitch on my 99 suburban, it was an excellent fit and very easy install.
It will be my first choice when I need another one and I would recommend it to anybody needing a receiver hitch.

TRAILER HITCH WAS SHIPEED ON TIME AS PROMISSED .INSTALLATION WAS EASY WITH THE HELP OF THE FISH WIRE THAT CAME WITH PARTS MADE GETTING THE BOLTS IN EXSISTING HOLE A BREEZE.HEAVY DUTY HITCH AND HARDEWARE. VERY SATTISFIED WITH MY PURCHASE.

by:
1993 Chevrolet Suburban

The hitch looks to be well made. It was an exact fit for my 1993 chevy 2500 suburban and I put it on in less than an hour. The guy that thought up the fish wire should be paid royalties. That little device saved me countless hours of frustration. This was my first purchase at etrailer, and won't be my last.

I ordered a hitch for my 1999 Suburban. The shipping was very fast and it was a great deal. After watching a video on how to install it on a box frame, it was done in less than an hour by myself. I have had the hitch on for about a year now and it still looks great and works great. Thanks for the great service and I will pass on your website to others.

The hitch and The brake controller That I purchased am very satisfied with.
No problems installing Them.

1996 Chevrolet Suburban

Perfect fit for my suburban! After spending 20 minutes getting the old fasteners out I was worried about getting the new ones in but the fish line for the bolts worked fantastically and the new ones were in in no time!!

by:

I was received the day it was promised. Super fast shipping and that helped a tremendous amount because I was needing the hitch in a hurry due to finding the one I had broken. The hitch went on without a hitch! It actually looked better than I thought and it looked a whole lot better than my bent one. Overall this company has great products, great prices and super fast shipping,! I will be buying from these folks again!

by:
1997 Chevrolet Tahoe

Just exactly what I needed, perfect fit, took 20 minutes to install (including removing my old hitch!) No drilling needed. Needed a beefier hitch to tow the new boat, this is spot on.

by:

I CALLED AND NICHOLAS C. ANSWERED. FANTASTIC! HE TOOK MY ORDER, REVIEWED MY ORDER, ASKED IF I NEEDED ANY ACCESSORY ITEMS AND THE BEST THING, I CALLED ABOUT 5:00 P.M. AND NICK GOT THIS HITCH SHIPPED OUT WITHIN MINUTES. YOU JUST CAN'T CUSTOMER SERVICE LIKE THAT ANYMORE.

by:

Timely shipping, good finish quality. Instructions were simple and the product was installed without any issues. Overall a good experience.

by:

Hitch works great. Install was easy. Included wire to fish the bolts into position was a huge help.

by:

Hitch showed up in 2 days like promised. Opened the box and had it installed on the truck in about fifteen minutes. Precision welds, perfect paint and fit. Very happy with the product

by:

  • Trailer Hitches and Wiring for a 1993 Chevy 1500 Truck and 1999 Chevy Suburban
You would not be able to move a trailer hitch back and forth between the 1999 Suburban and 1993 Chevy 1500 because the hitches are different between these vehicles and are not interchangeable. Also, you would have to get new hardware every time. The hardware is meant to only be torqued down once and not reused. For the 1999 Chevy Suburban the most popular hitch is # C14029. For the truck the most popular option (for models with standard or step bumper) is # C14081. The recommended ball...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2000 Chevy Tahoe Z71
A higher rated hitch is not going to be safer; you will be safe to tow so long as you stay within the limits of the vehicle. Should you still want something with a higher rating in case you increase your towing capacity then I recommend the Curt # C14029 which is a Class IV hitch with a 10,000 lb towing capacity and 1,000 lb tongue weight capacity. It has a 2" receiver and is a complete bolt-on installation that will fit your 2000 Chevy Tahoe Z71.

  • Trailer Weight Distribution & Brake Controller For 1994 GMC Suburban
It all just depends on what your hitch capacity is and what you plan on hauling. Meaning, if your hitch can haul 10,000 GTW but with a weight distribution set up it can haul 12,000 GTW then you would want to get a weight distribution set up for 12,000. For instance, if you have the Curt Class IV 2 inch hitch # C14029 you have a tongue weight capacity of 1,000 lbs and a Gross Trailer Weight Capacity of 10,000 lbs. But with a weight distribution hitch like # EQ37120ET you can now use the...

  • Aftermarket vs Factory Hitch Strength on 1999 Chevy Suburban
The Curt # C14029 is a Class IV hitch with a 10,000 lb capacity like you mentioned; the difference in capacities often comes down to construction, design and attachment points. In regards to the correct hitch and ball mount for your towing capacity and drop, the previously mentioned Curt # C14029 would be a great choice. As for ball mount for different amounts of drop, I recommend the Rapid Hitch Adjustable Aluminum Ball Mount Kit - 2 Zinc Balls - 5-1/2" Drop, 6-1/2" Rise Item # AM3411....

  • Removing Old Hardware from Hitch on 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe
After watching the installation video of the Curt # C14029 on a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe it looks like you should have fairly good access to the bolts and blocks from the outside of the frame. I would try using a telescoping magnet to get the old hardware out. There is really no set way to do this since typically the hitch does not need to be removed and the mounting hardware is designed to hold it securely in place. If you end up needing replacement hardware we do have the # RHK kit which...
