Works great for 1up bike rack! Well built hitch and relatively easy to install. I have not tried towing with it.

by:

The hitch was relatively easy to install, it took about an hour. I didn’t need to drop the exhaust as instructed in the video. My one complaint is that the instructions were incorrect- bolt sizes were not correct and the torque recommendations did not correspond to the nut sizes. Overall it has a good finish, great custom fit and looks good installed.

by:
2014 BMW X1

It fits perfectly and the price is reasonably. It's also top quality as if it was made by BMW

by:
BMW X1

Easy installation , took a little over an hour. Only difficulty for my X1 was the reinstallation of the rear facia panel and lower body panels were out of shape and needed reinlinement. Videos and installation instructions were great , some X1 models dont have exhaust sensor so there’s no need to take rubber hangers down for clearance.

2015 BMW X1

Product came on time and was easy to install. The video from etrailer made this SO easy. It took me an hour and 25 minutes, but I had to improvise because I didn't have a short socket. Make sure you have the suggested sizes with a short socket.

Product looks great on my car!

2013 BMW X1

Have had this Hitch on my wife's BMW for about a year. Installation was straight forward and took me about an hour. It really helps to have a 2nd person help lift and hold into position during the install.

I really like this hitch because most of the assembly is hidden behind the bumper and only the receiver is seen just below the bumper. We primarily use the hitch for a bike rack so we don't have to strap bikes to the vehicle itself.

by:

Very well made product with exceptional fit. Mounting instructions were easy to follow and precise.

by:
2014 BMW X1

I have dealt with etrailer for a hitch and lighting controller for my (now sold) 2006 BMW 330Ci ZHP coupe some years ago and that went fine. Installation went perfectly following their instructions. I just bought a hitch for our 2014 BMW X1 and that also went perfectly. Watching a video where they install on the same vehicle you have is a great confidence booster! It is apparent these guys know their stuff.

by:

Excellent delivery. The video instructions are great. I could mount it myself with my car on the ground. Also I did not unhang the exhaust. It took me about 3h to mount, but most of the time was spent figuring out and trying to place the trailer onto the studs. I´d recommend to use an extra pair of hands for that step. Also make sure to have short ratchets, there is little clearance to introduce the tools, I had to use a regular wrench and spent a lot of time tightening.

by:

Great hitch, installation videos made it easy.

by:

Order process and shipping was quick and easy. The website was user friendly and my order was just as described. The customer service follow up was nice as well. I received an email thanking me for my purchase and offering to help if I needed anything further. I definitely appreciate the extra effort made by etrailer to give me a great experience.

by:

This is the third Curt hitch that I've ordered from etrailer and installed on one of my cars. I only use them for my bike rack or a cargo carrier. Just like the other two, everything lined up and was easy to install. The etrailer install videos are a great help, giving you step-by-step instructions on how to do it and how big of a job to expect. I would recommend these hitches to anyone.

by:

Works great. Easy install if you have the right tools.

2014 BMW X1

I am very satisfied with the Curt custom fit trailer hitch Item number # C13140. I ordered the hitch to be able to use a 1up Bike rack on my 2014 BMW X1. The entire process from ordering, shipping and finally the install was very good. I used the provided instructions and watched one of the insulation videos and I was able to install without issues. Thank you to everyone involved in my order.

Good installation instructions took an hour, not simple. Works great, does the job!

by:

Good quality product but most importantly for me, as a newbie to trailer hitches, really great product support and customer service.

by:
BMW X1

Called tech support on instruction question and got very clear answer. Very pleased with hitch. The 13140 hitch for the BMW X1 is in my opinion a difficult install when you try to tighten upper bumper bolts. Suggestion for instructions to add criteria for "use as many spacer washers as needed". Very pleased with product, delivery and support.

by:

fits and performs exactly as advertised. self installed easily with the help of the provided youtube installation instructions. Thank you etrailer for making this a no-brainer purchase decision

by:

Installation was easy. Total time 1hr - 1.5hr. This is a no brainer for anyone wanting to add a hitch to the BMW X1.

by:
2015 BMW X1

Hitch went in pretty easy, you'll need the tools, and the tutorial video had no surprises. Overall I took my time and it was installed in 2hrs.

by:
2014 BMW X1

Great instructions and a perfect fit. No issues at all, everything went together seamlessly.

by:

It really fits my car. Our family tried different trails to ride bikes and had a lot of fun.

by:

Awesome product! As advertised, was able to DIY install a model 13140 on a 2015 BMW X1 in two hours. I highly recommend this product.

  • Fit of Curt Class III Hitch # C13140 on 2014 BMW X1
The Curt Class III hitch you referred to, part # C13140 does indeed carry fit a 2014 BMW X1. If you'll be using your hitch for towing purposes, you'll need the following to complete your towing system: Trailer wiring harness with 4-pole trailer connector, part # C59236 Ball mount, part # 2753 1-7/8 inch trailer ball, part # 19260 2 inch trailer ball, part # 63845 Locking hitch pin, part # e98882 You can see other accessories available for your X1 by clicking the provided link.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendations for a 2015 BMW X1
On Both the Curt trailer hitch # C13140 and Draw-Tite hitch # 75761 the faces of the receivers are just about flush with the rear of the vehicle. Take a look at the installation videos I have linked so you can see how each hitch looks on a 2015 BMW X1. Please note that the trailer hitches only fit models of the 2015 BMW X1 that have the panoramic sunroof. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount with a 2-3/4 inch rise or...

  • Will Thule T2 Pro XTB Bike Rack Fit BMW X1 with 2 inch Curt Hitch Installed
Yes, the Thule T2 Pro XTR part # TH83JV that you reference will work great in the Curt hitch part # C13140 that you have installed on your 2015 BMW X1. The rack would have plenty of clearance to fit and well and is overall one of the nicest bike racks you can get so I know you'll be super happy with it! I attached a review video link for the rack to this page for you to check out as well.

  • Recommendation for Carrying Two E-Bikes and a Specialized Bike on a 2013 BMW X1
To begin, the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, # C13140, will fit your 2013 BMW X1. It has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 250 lbs, but you will want to check your owners manual or with your local BMW dealership to verify the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle. If the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle is lower, then you will want to use that as your limit. For a bike rack, I recommend looking at the Thule T2 Pro XTR Platform-Style Bike Rack, # TH69TR. This bike rack offers a 160...

  • How Long Should it Take to Install a Curt Hitch on a 2013 BMW X1
The rear fascia of your 2013 BMW X1 will need to come off to install the Curt hitch part # C13140. If you check out the install instructions link that I attached you will see all of the steps required for the install. Curt states that this hitch should take about 40 minutes for a qualified mechanic to install and about 80 minutes for a regular guy with the right tools to install. You might ask the shop what their hourly shop rate is and see if you can negotiate from there. In the instructions...

  • Recommended Mounting Style of Bike Rack for Leased 2015 BMW X1
When it comes to transporting bikes, using a hitch mounted bike carrier will offer the most protection for your BMW since the bikes will be carried away from the vehicle. In my opinion this would be the way to go. As for the hitch, yes, you could go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, # C13140, that you mentioned for your 2015 BMW X1 but in order to maintain the warranty through Curt, using a support strap like # 18050 would be required for all non-trailer loads including bike racks...

We offer three brands of 2-inch Class III trailer hitch for the 2014 BMW X1, including the Curt # C13140 that you referenced. All available options can be seen on the link provided. We have not had a local customer come in for an install to enable us to shoot a video. This hitch installs without drilling but it is necessary to temporarily lower the exhaust to provide adequate working room for installing the included mounting hardware. Tools required include several metric wrenches, two...

  • Best Hitch Receiver for a Bike Rack on a 2014 BMW X1
The Curt Class III Trailer Hitch # C13140 requires the Support Strap # 18050 for any non-trailer loads. Curt requires this strap on all their Class I and II hitches and some of their Class III hitches. If you do not use the strap then it is in violation of their manufacturer's warranty. Draw-Tite does not feel the strap is necessary so they do not require it on their hitches. A large difference between them is the towing capacity. The Curt is rated much lower at 2500 lbs. while the...

  • Available Methods to Determine a Vehicle's Trailer Towing Capacity
Within the 2014 BMW X1 model range there are two 28i sub-models, the sDrive28i and the xDrive28i. On the BMW U.S. website I found an online edition of the owners manuals. The manuals for both the sDrive28i and the xDrive28i indicate nothing at all about trailer towing capacity! No mention of trailer towing is made, only details about towing the vehicle when it is disabled. It is not uncommon for some auto owner's manuals to be a bit evasive and sketchy about their position on towing with...

I have included a picture that shows what Curt hitch # C13140 looks like when installed on a BMW X1. The picture is from the instructions which I have also linked for you. As you can see the receiver opening is the only part visible beneath the rear fascia. At this time none of the other manufacturers we carry have plans for a hitch for the 2013 X1. That could potentially change in the future. The 2 inch receiver on the Curt hitch will provide you with many more bike rack options than...
