Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the replacement front pad assembly for your Yakima bike rack. This fits three different Yakima products, a little older style bike rack holders. They're all going to be a fork mounted bike rack. Two of them would fit into your trunk, or your truck bed mounted bike rack. That's going to be the BeddyJo and the Biker Bar.
And then it also works for the Yakima Boa, which is a roof mounted rack. So they all use the same front pod assembly. It's pretty basic and simple, but maybe yours got lost, maybe one of the pieces got misplaced somewhere, or broken, or it's just worn out and you need a new one without having to get a whole new system. So we can take a closer look at how all this fits together, what comes in the kit, and how you can use it.So the main portion is going to be of course our pod here. This is where we attach our skewer.
It's got that cap to go over and protect the hardware from any tampering. It comes with three new bolts to go down into the rack, and hold it in place. Those just tighten with the included Allen wrench to cinch it around your bar. Whether that's the bar that comes with the BeddyJo, or your kind of load bar for the Biker Bar or the Boa. The cutout that's in this kind of clam shell is meant to go over a square or round bar.
The square being kind of the old Thule square bars, and the round being of course the classic Yakima bar. But if you have a newer updated system, and maybe you have an Arrow bar, it also comes with this little bolt and block nut to attach your. clamped to a bar with a T rack system, so you'd slide this little nut into that T track, and then tighten it down with this bolt. The one bad thing is that this bolt does not have the same size head as the other two. It's a little bit smaller, so they do not include that wrench. You will have to figure that out on your own.
It's probably something like a one eighth of an inch, I would say, maybe three sixteenths, but a smaller Allen key, for sure. Once you have your hardware in place, you put that cap over the top, put your skewer through, attach your bike and you're ready to go. So this does work with the nine millimeter locking skewer from Yakima. That does not come with this. It is a sold separately piece. So if you need this skewer in addition to this front pod, that is something you can find here at etrailer.com. It's a related product on the product page so you can grab that while you're here. But it should be everything you need to get this front pod installed on your system, whether that's the Boa, the Biker Bar, or the BeddyJo. So I hope this video's been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right replacement part for you. If not, we do have a lot of other options available here at etrailer.com, if you want to get a whole new rack, but we should also have a lot of other replacement parts if you need something else besides just this guy. But that's it for me. Again, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, thanks for watching.
