The latching mechanism of the coupler might need to be lubricated or is possibly out of adjustment (if possible). Look underneath the coupler at the latching mechanism. If there's a nut on the side of the latch that you can see you might try backing that off a turn or so to allow the latch to not fit as tightly and have an easier time sliding off of the ball when disengaged.
